Slipknot has been churning out some of the hardest-hitting metal riffs for over two decades, thanks in no small part to the untamed tone of guitarist Jim Root. Known for 60 years as a primarily country music guitar, the Telecaster has also begun to win over players in other genres the past two decades. As a dedicated explorer of tone and attack, Jim Root has loved the Telecaster since he began playing guitar. He knew it was an instrument that had massive potential, so teaming up with Squier six years ago to develop this unique instrument was a treat for him and for Squier as well.

Departure from tradition means new horizons of tone

The dual passive humbucking pickups with black covers are a definite departure from the traditional single-coil pickups of Teles past. But with a three-way pickup switch and master Volume knob, these pickups put out not only warm, biting humbucker tone but dip into the brighter, high-end sparkle of single-coils as well.

Non-traditional mahogany body

While most Telecasters have historically featured an alder body, Slipknot's Jim Root plays a mahogany model for its tighter low-end response and awesome sustain. The C-shaped maple neck and Indian Laurel fingerboard compliment the tone and sustain of the mahogany body beautifully and is incredibly smooth and responsive.
